Information

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease that reduces the quality of life for our patients and their owners. The first step of management is making the diagnosis. The diagnosis of atopic dermatitis is made by exclusion of other causes of itch; there is no diagnostic test. Allergy testing is used to discover those allergens that could be used in immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is the only treatment we have that can change the abnormal immune response and delay progression of the disease. Utilizing molecular allergy testing gives us the opportunity to use cross-reactivity to generate treatments with fewer allergens and hopefully better success. Another key element in managing atopic patients is skincare. In this seminar we will discuss the multi-modal approach to allergy management including testing, immunotherapy and skincare.
