Information

This presentation covers important parasites and vector-borne pathogens of dogs that can also infect people and explains strategies for minimizing public health risks. We will discuss new information about hookworms, roundworms, flea tapeworms, and Echinococcus spp. that is relevant for human health and explain the basis for current recommendations on controlling zoonotic parasites in dogs. We’ll also review zoonotic risks associated with fleas and ticks, including vector-borne infections like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever that are shared by dogs and people, and even go over some parasites that aren’t zoonotic despite common misimpressions. Join us as we sort through the zoo of companion animal zoonoses. Presented by: Elanco Animal Health
