This session is livestreamed from VMX Orlando. Many consider anesthesia to be the time period where a patient is under general anesthesia with their vital signs monitored at regular intervals. However, anesthesia is not just that short period while the patient is asleep; instead, anesthesia is a continuum of care that begins well before the patient leaves home and extends into their return home. The entire continuum of anesthesia consists of preanesthesia, induction, maintenance and recovery. This lecture will focus on the preanesthesia and recovery portions of the anesthetic period.
