Veterinary use of gabapentin has increased dramatically over the past several years, likely due to the desire to have an oral analgesic alternative to non- steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Despite this popularity, gabapentin has a narrow indication for use in veterinary medicine and current prescribing practices warrant further scrutiny. Over the course of this lecture, we will attempt to explore the following questions: Is the veterinary community prescribing gabapentin correctly? Is there sufficient evidence in the literature to support current veterinary prescribing practices? Is dispensing and administration of gabapentin as safe as it appears? Sponsored By: Dechra
