Information
Cats are often regarded as finicky eaters who casually vomit at the most inopportune times and in the most inconvenient locations. However, chronic, persistent, or intermittent gastrointestinal (GI) signs may indicate chronic enteropathy (CE), a common disorder in cats. Causes of feline CE are not readily differentiated based on the clinical presentation, preliminary test results, or a clinician’s gut feeling. We will review current terminology and evidence-based testing and management strategies for feline CE to assist with pet owner consultations and inform patient care. Case examples will illustrate a spectrum of care.
