Information

This lecture is designed for veterinary technicians who are familiar with point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and are looking to expand their skill set into more comprehensive abdominal scanning techniques. Attendees will gain a foundational understanding of performing basic abdominal ultrasound exams, including key anatomical landmarks and common pathologies seen in small animal patients. Attention will be given to the indications for a full abdominal scan beyond the scope of emergency-focused POCUS, covering essential organs such as the liver, spleen, kidneys, and bladder. Practical tips on patient preparation, proper probe handling, and image optimization will be discussed to enhance diagnostic quality. The session will also focus on interpreting normal and common abnormal findings, with case examples to reinforce learning. By the end of the lecture, veterinary technicians will feel more confident in assisting veterinarians with comprehensive abdominal ultrasounds and will have a deeper understanding of how these scans can guide patient management and care.
