Information
In this session, we will review clinically relevant drug-resistant bacteria, both those commonly encountered and those which are recognized as emerging pathogens in small animal patients. Specifically, the session will focus on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus and multidrug resistant gram negative pathogens (e.g. extended spectrum beta lactamases [ESBL] and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales [CRE]). The attendee will learn how to spot these organisms on routine bacterial culture testing, as well as how to treat clinical infections. We will also review infection prevention and control considerations for the general practitioner.
